About Reluctantly Fit

Fitness for the rest of us

Reluctantly Fit exists for ordinary people who want to improve their health without pretending that motivation is effortless, discipline is constant, or perfection is realistic.

What Reluctantly Fit is

Most fitness culture is built around extremes: extreme motivation, extreme aesthetics, extreme routines, and extreme expectations. Reluctantly Fit takes a different approach.

It is built around honesty, humour, consistency, and realistic progress. The goal is not to become superhuman overnight. The goal is to help people make steady improvements, track them honestly, and keep going even when enthusiasm is low.

A little effort. A little consistency. A lot of muttering.

Why it exists

Reluctantly Fit was created as an alternative to intimidating, unrealistic fitness culture. Plenty of people do want to improve their health, but they do not see themselves reflected in polished influencer content, all-or-nothing routines, or empty motivational slogans.

This project is being built for real people: people with responsibilities, setbacks, aches, doubts, interruptions, and days when the last thing they want to do is exercise.

The belief behind it is simple: progress still counts even when it is imperfect, reluctant, slow, or accompanied by complaining.

Founder

Reluctantly Fit was founded by Ken Hall, a long-serving web professional, practical builder, entrepreneur, and qualified drone operator with a strong background in digital systems, secure environments, and real-world execution.

Ken spent 22 years in web development for a global software company, progressing to the role of Senior Web Developer. His work included full stack development, web marketing, and systems security, including work on secure systems and within environments requiring Government security clearance.

Alongside that technical and professional background, Ken also dedicated 16 years to martial arts training, culminating in helping to run a martial arts academy teaching both Wado Ryu Karate and MMA. That period of life built discipline, resilience, coaching experience, and a deep practical understanding of movement, training, and gradual improvement.

That training came to an end following a period of severe illness around 12 years ago, culminating in a major operation and a very long recovery. That experience fundamentally changed the physical journey. It also changed the perspective behind this project.

Ken is also a fully qualified and insured drone pilot, holding A2 CofC, GVC, and CAA Operational Authorisation. That combination of technical capability, operational discipline, safety awareness, and practical delivery reflects the standard behind the wider project.

Reluctantly Fit is now part of Ken’s personal mission: to rebuild his own fitness, strength, consistency, and health whilst being exceedingly reluctant to do so — and to build something useful, honest, and encouraging for other people who may feel exactly the same.

The mission

This is not a project built from theory alone. It is being shaped by lived experience: discipline gained, health lost, recovery endured, perspective changed, and the decision to start building again.

The mission of Reluctantly Fit is to create a platform that is honest, secure, practical, and genuinely useful — a place where ordinary people can improve their health without having to pretend they enjoy every part of the process.

It is about rebuilding fitness with realism, humour, accountability, and stubborn forward movement, one reluctant step at a time.

Where it is going

Reluctantly Fit is growing into a wider platform combining tracking, accountability, humour, community features, and practical tools to help people build healthier habits over time.

The long-term aim is to create a credible, well-built platform that supports realistic behaviour change — without guilt, fakery, or polished nonsense.
